under the sun
out in the field where the flowers grow to the sky
lilies and crocuses
and in a flash
just when my sister turned and was looking away
and before i could speak
in the ground, a crack appeared
then a form leapt from the tear
fearsome arms, shrouded and cold
dragged me to his underworld

there was no one to see just what became of me
immortal eyes did see
so side by side
my mother and the witch combed the earth for a sign
and soon they came to learn
the sun on his mighty throne
had witnessed all and told them more
my own father did conspire
to hand me to this dark squire:
hades
brutal with rage
my mother swore lest i was freed from his dark hole
she shall let nothing grow
famine had come
so to protect their beloved burnt offerings
i must be free to fly
but i'd been tempted with food
ate a bite, succulent fruit
so each year, i must return
to the dark deep in the earth
in that time, the cold shall reign
mother's curse, 'til we're again
united safe in her home
only then will the spring come
and then spring will come
and then the spring will come
